This is a small portfolio of images chosen to represent a variety of portrait styles that could be used for the Caring Scotland brief.
As well as natural light portraiture I love to use unusual techniques and lighting effects, often in after-dark situations on location when appropriate. I also use silhouettes as a strong compositional tool and I love to embrace a sense of theatre and performance to tell a personal story with an image. I would be guided by each individual subject, and would collaborate and plan with them to find a place of connection, somewhere, or with someone, or doing an activity that helps them express their individuality and their place in the world.
I’m really just the tool for my subjects to shape an image of themselves that they are proud to point at and say “See, that’s me”.
